"Wading" 30 x 40 inch Fine Art Print
Artwork Description:
"Wading" embodies the delicate balance between structure and chance that defines my artistic approach. In this large-scale work, a rich tapestry of colors—reds, blues, greens, whites, and golds—creates a visual field that invites prolonged contemplation. Areas of blue emerge and recede throughout the composition, suggesting the water referenced in the title, while accents of vibrant red create points of visual tension and energy. The painting's surface reveals his characteristic process of building up and removing layers of paint, creating a complex history that mirrors how experiences accumulate in memory. Some marks remain bold and assertive, while others appear partially erased or transformed, yet continue to influence the overall composition—much like how certain life experiences remain prominent in our consciousness while others fade but continue to shape our perception. The title "Wading" evokes the act of moving carefully through shallow water, an apt metaphor for how we navigate through the layers of our experiences and memories. Just as wading requires deliberate attention to unseen elements beneath the surface, the painting encourages viewers to look beyond immediate visual impressions to discover subtle relationships between colors, textures, and forms. This work continues my exploration of water imagery and meditative spaces, creating a contemplative field where viewers might recognize something of their own journey through life's complexities. The painting's open composition resists singular interpretation, instead offering a space where personal associations can emerge and evolve with extended viewing—a visual embodiment of how meaning itself forms through the interaction between perception and memory.
